The Reclaiming the Sacred Program originated out of concerns over a lack of long term resources for adult survivors of sexual abuse. This need was first identified in 2016, which began with a request from an adult survivor. In time, research and development began on a garden therapy program that addressed the unique set of challenges that typically confront survivors. This new curriculum was developed with input from the Sexual Assault Crisis Centre of Windsor-Essex, social workers and an adult survivor. This new curriculum was introduced as a pilot course in the City of Windsor in the fall of 2016, making it the first program of its kind in Canada.
